A little girl, age 7, was walking through a great cathedral with her parents as the tour guide was explaining about all the saints in the stained glass windows and the little girl spoke up: “Saints are people that the light shines through.”
All Saints Day is coming up soon, Saturday, I think. I invite you to remember all the Saints in the balcony of your life – those folks who birthed, blessed, formed and informed your being, people who have touched your life and you have grown, people who are forever a part of the fabric of your life, who in some way continue to inspire you and to cheer you on. Parents, grandparents, relatives, teachers, music teachers, coaches, professors, spiritual leaders, friends, neighbors. It can be almost anyone – it is a mystery.

I invite you to pause, to take a few long, slow, deep cleansing breaths and to remember all the saints in the balcony of your life. It is a deep mystery how the kindling flame of life and power leaps from one life to another. It is not so much taught as caught. What is it within a person that shines through awakening us, kindling the flame of our life? And now we perhaps with our own torch are passing it on.
